Meet Your Coach

Hi, my name is Ryan Daunt and I've been playing drums for over 20 years, and performing and teaching professionally for over 15 years.Drumming has been at the centre of my life for as long as I can remember, and I’ve built my career around performing, recording, writing and educating. I hold a Bachelor of Jazz Music (Honours) and have had the privilege of performing professionally in Europe, USA, and all across Australia. I’ve recorded for numerous artists and performed over 175 gigs last year alone.Alongside performing, I’ve developed a deep passion for coaching and mentoring drummers—helping them refine their playing, practice, and performance skills so they can break through plateaus and unlock new levels of creativity, confidence, and freedom behind the kit.My focus is on creating structured, personalised practice plans that are clear, engaging, and designed to deliver real results. Whether it’s strengthening fundamental technique, learning to improvise with confidence, or developing flow and musical expression, my goal is to equip drummers with the tools they need to progress faster and more effectively toward their goals. What sets my approach apart is a balance between discipline and creativity. I believe practice should be structured but inspiring, giving you the technical foundation you need while leaving space for your individuality to come through naturally in your playing. If you’re ready to take your drumming to the next level, I’ll help you build the skills and mindset to play with greater confidence, freedom, and flow.

2. Schedule Your First Session

If we’re a great fit, we’ll lock in your first one-hour online coaching session.
You’ll receive a confirmation email with everything you need to get set up — no special gear required, just a laptop, iPhone, or tablet.

3. Your 1-on-1 Coaching Session (Live via Google Meet)

Each 1-on-1 session is focused entirely on you — your playing, your goals, and your growth.
We’ll work through tailored exercises and practical strategies to refine your technique, improvisation, and overall fluidity. You’ll walk away with clarity, confidence, and a clear plan to guide your next steps.

4. Personalised Practice Plan

At the end of the session, you’ll receive detailed notes or a structured practice outline tailored to your goals.
This is your roadmap — designed to help you build consistency, stay focused, and see measurable improvement between sessions.

5. Continue at Your Own Pace

Some drummers prefer a one-off session to spark new ideas or direction. Others continue weekly or fortnightly for ongoing support, accountability, and deeper progress. Either way, you’ll have a clear path forward — with tools, focus, and motivation to keep growing as a drummer.

Testimonials

I have had the pleasure of currently taking online lessons with Ryan and have found his interment knowledge of the instrument and techniques a refreshing teaching style. He is always available for troubleshooting and advice in between lessons either via text or video. I have been drumming for while now and wanted to strip all my bad technique habits back, so I could employ good technique and make my playing as effortless as possible and make playing easier and enjoyable. I would highly recommend Ryan from Better Drumming to assist with taking your playing to another level. He is very approachable and always up for drumming discussions. I can definitely see progress being made the correct way, under Ryan’s teaching and look forward to many more to come.
-Malcolm S.

"Just over 3 weeks ago I reached out to Ryan for some coaching on finger techniques to help clean up my single strokes and increase speed. I made the decision based on one of [Better Drumming's] YouTube videos which was very clear and easy to understand. The coaching went extremely well and within in a week I understood the finger techniques 100% better and experienced rapid improvements. Also, thanks for the coaching on flow and the Clave. I feel that I have uncovered some fundamental techniques, approaches and how to use the metronome to enhance my practice sessions. Thanks for your chilled and detailed coaching which will definitely support me in reaching my drumming goals."
-Lucean B.

“I am a sixty-six year old guitarist who has recently started learning drums. Ryan is a thoroughly competent teacher with a genuine enthusiasm for imparting his (impressive) skills and knowledge. His lessons are a perfect mix of what I want to know and what I need to know to keep me inspired, keen to do the work, developing my skills and enjoying my playing. I couldn’t ask for a better – or nicer teacher!”
